In the past I decided that I was sick. What happened was I found myself sick ALL the time. I had chronic sinus infections, irritable bowel syndrome and achy joints. I would find myself saying, “If someone around me gets sick I’m the one that’s going to catch it.” What happened was I always caught it and got it worse than the person I caught it from.
I also had a story that I was klutzy and always hurting myself. During those years I shattered my toe, broke my heal, broke my wrist, tore a ligament in my ankle and was constantly falling off my bike and tripping over my feet.
Another story I had was that I couldn’t afford anything. When that story played out I never had the money to do any of the things I wanted and could barely pay my rent and feed myself.
When you decide something is true about yourself, the Universe conspires to prove that you’re right.
If you decide you are ugly, you will feel ugly. If you decide you are beautiful, you will feel beautiful. If you decide you are poor, you will feel poor. If you decide you are abundant you will feel abundant. If you decide today sucks the big one, then today will suck the big one. If you decide that today will be one big fat awesome day full of magic, then today will be one big fat awesome day of magic!
I’m not saying that life will be all rainbows, unicorns, flowers and pixie-dust all the time, because that would be a lie. Sometimes shitty things happen. They happen to me all the time, but I get to choose how to react to those shitty things no matter how shitty they are. My friend Morella once said to me, “What if this shitty thing that is happening wasn’t happening TO you, but happening FOR you. What would that mean?”
Woah! Wait? So everything is happening for me even if it feels tragic at the time?
It’s true. It’s really hard to see it when you are in the dark place, but the more you practice staying out of victimhood, the easier it becomes and the less you will suffer. It’s just like weight-lifting. If you’ve never lifted a weight in your life, you can’t go in the gym and lift a thousand pounds. You start with a one pound weight and build up. The same goes for this work. Start with a one pound “life is happening for me” weight and when it feels light, go for the five pound weight. Before you know it you will be a professional weight lifter for your amazing life.
I would love to hear from you. In the comments section below please share what one pound weight you are going to pick up today. I would also love to hear all the ways that life is happening for you right now.
We work on this very thing in my Rock Your Life Mentorship Program that is starting mid-October. If this is something you would like support on, fill out this application and we’ll schedule a free short little magical musing session together to talk about it.
The awesome in me sees and bows to the awesome in you,
I agree with absolutely everything you say and especially this article…it is easy to fall into this self-fulfilling prophecy cycle and think we have no control over our lives but it is all about attitude! Sometimes I do have days when I feel like everything I touch and do turns to shit and it ends up being the whole day..when I am in traffic it is like everyone is going extra slow or cutting me off…when I am in the market everything and everyone gets on my nerves. When I am having a good day, it seems like nothing can stand in my way..I am not in a rush to get anywhere so if traffic is slow I don’t notice. Instead of being annoyed by people, i smile at them and they smile back and I feel even better.Amazing things are everywhere when I really look and live in the moment. Whatever mood I am in, is reflected around me because we see what we are feeling or what we want to see. It is hard to completely avoid the bad days but I try to have more and more good magic days,to learn and make the most out of both the good and bad -because the tough times really do make us stronger!!Thank you Taraleigh!
