Hey Magic Maker. It’s April in the year 2021. Woah. Time flies when you’re on a ball of dirt hurling through space doesn’t it? I can’t believe how much success I’ve experienced in such a short amount of time. What did I do differently? I finally started to embrace the gifts that came with my ADHD and figured out how to to use them as my superpowers.
Years ago I had a dream of having the freedom to work from anywhere in the world. I would see people doing it, but I couldn’t figure out how. One of my biggest problems was that I couldn’t stick to something long enough to see it through. I was all over the place chasing every idea that came through my head until I eventually lost the motivation to keep going. Sometimes I got bored. Other times things got hard and I bailed. I was frustrated ALL THE TIME. When I started to see some success, I got scared and ran in the other direction. I did this over and over and over again
Hyperfocus and distractibility seem to be typical qualities for many entrepreneurs, but they are also widely recognized ADHD traits. So many successful entrepreneurs have been diagnosed with ADHD it got me wondering why it’s considered a disorder. Back in the hunter/gatherer days, the people with ADHD were the rock stars that everyone else was told to be more like. I feel like it’s the same in the entrepreneur world too.
I’m successful now because I embraced the magical parts of my ADHD and made them work for me as my superpowers instead of my kryptonite.
Each week this month I’m going to be bringing tips for people with ADHD so all their business dreams come true. Want to learn how to use your ADHD as one of your superpowers too? If so, keep reading.
ADHD Business Tip: Have a Clean, Neat and Dedicated Work Space
The only things on your desk should be your computer, a drink, your phone (on silent and turned facedown), and one other item such as a crystal or candle. If you live in a studio apartment or space where an office isn’t possible it’s still important to have a neat space that is dedicated to making your business magic. This may mean that your office is your bedroom and your bed doubles as your desk. Get a non-busy patterned tapestry to drape across your bed. When this tapestry is out, that means it’s business time.
Keeping this space uncluttered will likely be something that you have to stay on top of. Dedicated time in your schedule every day to get your workspace in order will be crucial. The fewer things you have in your environment to distract you the more you’ll set yourself up for success.
Good luck. If you have a question or need support, or want to let me know how this resonates with you, send me a message HERE. I love hearing from you!
XOXO,
Taraleigh
